“Paper Hearts and Sidewalk Chalk,” by Flavia Birsan, is a tribute to the fleeting brightness of childhood, those vivid, sunlit memories that come back in fragments: a folded note, a burst of laughter, chalk drawings blurred by the rain.

Built in thoughtful layers, this piece blends dusty pinks, faded whites, soft turquoise, joyful orange and a flash of  yellow. Each mark was made with an intentional looseness, echoing the way children create, before hesitation, before judgment. The textures are playful yet grounded, like a memory both distant and deeply familiar.

It’s a painting about first crushes and fierce little friendships, about love before it had language and play before it had rules. A lighthearted composition with an undercurrent of nostalgia.
